Giant ATX mountain bikes provide novice mountain bikers with an excellent option, offering suspension forks that can handle light trails and forest paths. Furthermore, this model comes equipped with a Shimano Tourney 21-speed gear system for smooth shifting and Power V-Brakes, which offer quick stops on steep inclines.
Tire selection can make a dramatic difference in how a bike rides, and this model comes equipped with Giant Quickcross tires, which feature fast rolling performance while providing outstanding grip over pavement paths and light trails.
ALUXX frame
From parkways to paths, this versatile flat-bar mountain bike can help you achieve new fitness goals while adding some fun and variety to your commute. Its lightweight ALUXX frame and suspension fork provide a balanced ride; integrated mounts make adding racks or fenders straightforward.
Aluminum bike frames are durable and straightforward to maintain, with little effort needed in terms of upkeep. Plus, they’re lighter than carbon frames for easier climbing hills and pedaling faster. While carbon frames offer greater stiffness and strength than their aluminum counterparts, aluminum frames make an excellent budget-friendly alternative ideal for novice cyclists or those on tight budgets looking for their first bike frame experience.
Giant’s ALUXX frame is constructed using pro-level 6011A alloy that is hydroformed and press-formed before being hand-sanded for smoothness – creating lightweight frames with superior strength-to-weight ratios in Giant’s aluminum lineup.
This ALUXX frame on this hardtail mountain bike was engineered specifically to complement its 29- or 27.5-inch wheels, featuring tailor-made geometry for each wheel size, as well as 100mm of smooth travel suspension fork travel for cushioned handling on rough roads or trails. As such, its confident yet efficient ride makes this ideal for new singletrack riders looking to expand their repertoire.
Aluminum frames are an excellent choice for mountain bikers looking to take the sport seriously. While aluminum can still be ridden off-road and provides all of the same benefits as steel or titanium frames, its more excellent forgiving nature means less long-term fatigue is experienced by its riders; furthermore, it costs significantly less.
SR Suntour fork
This bike’s SR Suntour fork provides all of the performance of more expensive divisions at an accessible cost. Utilizing a 36mm aluminum stanchion and an air spring with external adjustability for maximum stiffness and sensitivity adjustment, its hydraulic bottom-out system ensures smooth suspension regardless of terrain; its sleek fender mount also bolts directly to lowers without the need for zip ties!
The fork’s unique hollow crown design saves weight while increasing strength without altering ride characteristics or its strength-to-weight ratio. Furthermore, its lightweight aluminum upper is more effortless to abuse without cracking or bending over time.
Suntour’s Equalizer System makes this fork even more unique, optimizing both sag and damping by matching rider weight to the spring curve. This makes setting up the division easier while creating the desired feel, plus high-speed compression adjustment is also provided for added precision.
This fork was not intended for downhill use but can still handle light trails. You can lock out its front end using the included remote to firm up its performance over rough trails, yet it can remain quite flexible over minor bumps.
External damping adjustability is an outstanding feature of the fork, enabling you to customize it according to your riding style. Unfortunately, full compression and low-speed damping enabled can sometimes result in harsh riding experiences, especially if many plastic or rubber volume spacers have been installed.
Shimano Acera drivetrain
The drivetrain of a mountain bike consists of a collection of components that create its transmission, such as chain, cassette, derailleur, and cranks. When selecting your ideal mountain bike model from one of two leading drivetrain manufacturers- SRAM or Shimano- component quality should play an integral role. Both brands provide wide selections with various features and price levels.
Shimano currently offers four 12-speed models that meet the needs of riders of varying levels – from the elite racer-oriented XTR for elite racing to entry-level bikes with Alivio and Deore components found worldwide, to their most recent offering: LinkGlide, which provides more forgiving indelicate shifting with emphasis on durability over lightness.
This upgraded groupset represents a substantial upgrade over its predecessor. It introduces an aluminum rear derailleur cover to withstand better enduro and trail riding abuse, hollowed-out cranks for lighter weight, as well as improved shifters to provide smoother, more straightforward operation.
The Shimano Acera drivetrain is equipped with an adjustable derailleur clutch. This helpful feature helps ensure that you remain in the correct gear even when brushing against rocks or trees; previously only available on top-tier derailleurs such as XTR and SLX derailleurs, now accessible through an easy-to-reach window covered by rubber plug. In addition, there’s also a hole in their covers, which lets you adjust tension, making this drivetrain particularly helpful on long rides where increasing pressure will improve shifting.
Tektro hydraulic disc brakes
No matter if you are new to mountain biking or an experienced rider, this bike has something for you. With a drivetrain featuring multiple gears to help tackle steep hills and powerful disc brakes for confident handling in any weather, as well as its intuitive appearance that makes operation simple even for novice riders, this bike provides something suitable for all.
The Giant ATX bike is an excellent option for beginners or anyone seeking a lightweight, comfortable bicycle. Crafted of ALUXX aluminum for optimal weight reduction and featuring a suspension fork designed to absorb bumps and rocks, as well as rack mounts so you can add fenders or racks as necessary, it makes a versatile bike that’ll take you along trails or roads alike.
Giant ATX features Tektro hydraulic disc brakes designed to deliver smooth and consistent stopping power, explicitly designed to handle the added momentum associated with electric bikes while maintaining higher speeds for extended periods. Their high-quality materials can withstand higher temperatures and are thicker than standard rotors, offering improved heat management and performance.
The ATX brakes are easy to adjust; loosen a grub screw in the lever to change how they feel and use an Allen key to move them around to adjust caliper positions or pad pressure when pads rub against the disk or only one side is touching the disk. Just be mindful to tighten the bolts back after making any changes – otherwise, your new system could slip and lose effectiveness over time! Additionally, ATX brakes are more durable than many disc brake systems, making this model an excellent choice for mountain bikes.
Internal cable routing
Giant ATX mountain bikes combine rugged style and smooth riding style for the ideal fitness goal or commute. Constructed from ALUXX for strength-to-weight balance and easy handling, its hardtail frame features a 100 mm travel suspension fork and powerful brakes for complete confidence control in any condition – plus integrated mounts make adding racks or fenders easy, too!
Fully-internal cable routing has become more prevalent on drop handlebar bikes, even entry-level ones. While it provides a sleek appearance, fully internal routing can be tedious to work on and can lead to issues like spongy shifting or sticky dropper posts – both potentially costly problems caused by poorly tuned headsets or incorrect cable length.
First, remove the cover and loosen any cable clamps. Whenever possible, do this without unplugging cables; that way, you’ll gain insight into their route through your frame, and it’ll make replacing them easier later. When your lines or hose are freed up, you can use either a RockShox Stealth barb connector or (my personal favorite) Park Tool Internal Cable Routing Kit IR-1.2 to join their ends together.
Next, push the hose/cable through the frame, aiming toward where you would like it to come out. Tighten up any cable clamps as necessary before adding another tie for extra security if working with a hydraulic hose. A slight bend in the cable may help direct its path more effectively when dealing with a hydraulics hose.
